Hon. William Schoettler
Judge (Retired) Schoettler graduated from Southwestern University School of Law and was admitted to practice in California in 1965. He practiced law for 23 years with the firm of Murchison and Cumming during which he tried over 75 Superior Court jury trials, was President of the Wilshire Bar Association, lectured extensively for CEB on the subjects of Tort Litigation and Civil Jury Trials, was an Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and a Judge Pro Tem for the Los Angeles Municipal Court.
Governor Deukmajian appointed Bill Schoettler to the Los Angeles Superior Court Bench in 1988 where he sat as a trial judge and settlement judge in the Downtown Central Branch.
Judge Schoettler has mediated over 10,000 cases, both as a sitting Judge and as a Retired Judge, and has tried and arbitrated over 500 cases. He has extensive experience with most civil law fields such as business, real estate, employment, personal injury, product liability, medical/dental/legal malpractice. He has held a commercial pilots license and has worked as a construction worker, welder, journal editor, actor, machinist, ski instructor and salesman (automobiles and men's clothing). He has been a parachutist, a hunter and fisherman and a diver. He holds a Masters Degree in Spiritual Psychology and has taken courses leading to a degree in Counseling Psychology.
Judge Schoettler brings to the mediation / arbitration field a wealth of both personal and professional experience.
