ADR EXPERIENCE AND FOCUS

Barry Ross has successfully mediated and arbitrated more than 1800 cases since 1993.  He is especially known for his exceptionally high resolution rate in mediating cases in real estate, lending, banking, business, and commercial disputes, including:

  • Real Estate – breach of contract, seller liability, agent liability, breach of fiduciary duty, agency, escrow and title, quite title actions, specific performance, boundary line and neighbor disputes, easements, commission and deposit disputes, homeowner association (HOA) disputes, premises liability, landlord/tenant, and leasing;
  • Banking and Finance – lender liability (including RESPA, TILA and fair debt collection practices), wrongful foreclosure, and accounting;
  • Business and Commercial – contracts, business dissolution, accounting, employment and professional liability (including real estate broker, appraiser, accountant, and attorney liability).

PROFESSIONAL AFFILATIONS & BACKGROUND

Barry Ross is admitted to practice law in all courts of the State of California (SBN 069340), and at all levels of the Federal Judiciary.  He was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court in 1981.  Mr. Ross is a member of the American Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and the San Fernando Valley Bar Association in addition to being the 2012 President of the Glendale Bar Association and the 2010–2011 President of the Burbank Bar Association.  He is also a licensed California Real Estate Broker (DRE Lic. #00460974).

Mr. Ross is a member of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals, the California Academy of Distinguished Neutrals, the Association of Attorney-Mediators, the Association for Conflict Resolution, the California Dispute Resolution Council, and the Southern California Mediation Association.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Barry Ross received his B.S. (cum laude) and his M.B.A. from the University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business, in 1972 and 1974 respectively, and completed his J.D. from Southwestern University, School of Law in 1975.  Mr. Ross received advanced training in mediation from the Los Angeles County Bar Association and from Pepperdine University’s Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution.

LECTURER AND AUTHOR

Mr. Ross publishes a bi-monthly ADR e-newsletter.  He is a featured speaker and MCLE presenter on Effective Use of Mediation for Attorneys and Avoiding Attorney Malpractice in Mediation.  He writes the Los Angeles Times column Legally Speaking and the Daily News column Ask the Real Estate Attorney, and he has co-authored and lectures for The Certified Condominium Specialist Course © 2009-2011.  Mr. Ross has also been an Adjunct Professor of Law and Real Estate at Woodbury University and at Glendale Community College.
